Abstract
There are a number of experimental findings that are fairly well established: (a) Interferons cause an antiviral effect in tissue culture (1). (b) Injection of interferon causes antiviral protection in vivo (for a review see Ref. 2). (c) Injection of a variety of viruses causes rapid interferon production in vivo, both at the infection site (for example in the peritoneal cavity) and in the serum (3). (d) Injection of interferon or interferon inducers (including viruses) causes activation of Natural Killer (NK) cells in vivo (4).
