Abstract

Presently, COVID-19 creates various challenges and unprecedented situations for the humans, global economy, as well as environment. COVID-19 creates gigantic biomedical and plastic waste such as face masks, face shield, gloves, sanitizer bottles, personal protective equipment (PPE), and many more that directly affected the environment. Plastics present in biomedical wastes break down into micro- and nanoscopic bits due to various chemical and physical actions in the environment, can enter in living beings via food chain, and cause several health problems. So, robust plastic management is very important to prevent entrance of micro- and nanoplastic into the environment. Nanomaterial is a popular concept used for the several environmental remediation and used for various industries due to their peculiar properties such as high surface-to-volume ratio, smaller size, and morphology. Hence, in COVID-19 pandemic nanomaterials also play a significant role. For the modification of PPE, gloves, and face masks, various types of nanomaterials are used.KeywordsCOVID-19MacroplasticEnvironmentDisposalNanomaterials
