Abstract
Background: Orbital masses are not as common as masses anywhere in the body. Characterization of orbital masses is crucial to plan patient management. MRI plays an important role in doing so as it has superior soft tissue contrast and helps in better delineation of extent of involvement of orbital masses. Aims and Objectives: This study aims at evaluating MRI imaging pattern of orbital masses and their correlation with histopathology. Materials and method: 55 patients with suspected orbital mass referred to Department of Radiology fullling the inclusion criteria were included in the study. Contrast enhanced MRI orbit was performed and ndings recorded. MRI ndings were corelated with histopathology. Results: Amongst 55 patients, 37 were males(67.27%) and 18 were female(32.73%).The patient age ranged from 1 month to 69 yr. The orbital masses consist of 28 malignant and 27 benign masses amongst which uveal melanoma and inammatory masses were the most common respectively. Conclusion:The presentstudy concludes that MRI is extremely useful modality to characterize orbital masses.
