Abstract
Colonies of honey bees. Apis mellifera L., (Hymenoptera: Apidae), and individual bees have distinct circadian rhythms when external stimuli are removed. The circadian activity was eliminated from observation colonies by exposing the bees to light during a period of low activity. The circadian oscillation of the activity of individual honey bees can be compressed or expanded from that expected in a free-running situation by entrainment with light.
