Abstract

This research attempts to highlight the role of Key Capabilities namely HR, Marketing, R&D (Product Development), and Manufacturing, the role of Strategic Leadership in resource development, the role and extent of Government Support in contributing to firm's Competitive Advantage and Superior Performance, and the Emergent Strategies through the case studies of two Indian firms in the Indian Pharmaceutical Industry i.e. Zydus Cadila (large firm) and Lincoln Pharma (Medium sized firm). The Competitive consequences and Performance implications for both the firms are implied upon by categorizing their Key Capabilities using VRIN (Valuable, Rare In-Imitable and Non-Substitutable) model popularized by Barney (1991).
