Abstract

When evaluating focal nerve lesions, the internal topography of peripheral nerves needs to be considered. One needs to address not only the location of the fascicle in the nerve, but also the vascular supply for those fascicles and connective tissue issues of blood-nerve barriers, cushioning, and elasticity. This article provides an overview of peripheral nerve microanatomy and discusses its relevance to electrodiagnostic interpretation.
