Abstract
RATIONALE: On basophils and mast cells cross-linking of FcεRI-bound IgE plays a pivotal role for the release of effector molecules. Likewise, activation of CD4+ T-cells at very low allergen concentrations may rely on complex formation between allergen, IgE and CD-23 (facilitated antigen presentation, FAP), which, in turn, may lead to exacerbation of the allergic inflammation. In both cases, the central event for cellular activation is complex formation between allergen and polyclonal cell-surface-bound IgE.
