Abstract

Total hip arthroplasty (PTA) may occasionally be necessary for treatment of arthritis of the hip during adolescence. The objective of this review is to assess whether in the literature there are indications for surgical treatment of PTA in this age group. Materials and methods. It was reviewed the literature from 90 to now emerged a small amount of information documenting the outcome of total hip replacement in adolescents. Results. The studies show a high success rate at 5 years after surgery with return daily activity and in some cases sporty young patient. The most frequent complication is mobilization of the cup. Conclusions. Total hip replacement is a reasonable choice among teenagers and young adults in selected patients when other surgical treatments cannot be practiced.
