Abstract

Economy of the twenty first century is based on knowledge. Studies around the globe have concluded that the emerging copyright laws relating to industries associated with informative and entertainment value is having tremendous impact on the growth and national economies. It is being realised that the future prosperity of nations will depend more upon their intellectual property than their natural resources and physical assets. Understanding of the copyright law, therefore assumes significance. Copyright law tries to provide a balance between the interests of creators of work and those who want to have an access to the said works. The players in the copyright are the creators, disseminators of work and the public who make use of the work for their benefit-personal or private. The specific works covered by the law of copyright are original literary, dramatic, musical and artistic works and derivatives like film and sound recordings.
