Abstract

1. Luminescence in the near UV and visible region of the spectrum is not observed during the adsorption of O2 and CO, and during their reaction, on platinum that had been purified in an ultrahigh vacuum, in the pressure range 10−6–10−1 torr. 2. The electron-excited states of O2 do not play a noticeable role in the catalytic oxidation of CO on platinum.
