Abstract

Male rats were trained to consume their daily ration of food in 2 hr of food availability. Benperidol, haloperidol and pimozide inhibited feeding elicited in this manner. Azaperone. chlorpromazine and phenoxybenzamine showed only weak activity. In addition, marked tolerance was observed to the action of only benperidol, haloperidol and pimozide in the rats pretreated chronically with haloperidol and tested 7–21 days after discontinuation of the chronic treatment. Involvement of dopaminergic systems in deprivation-elicited feeding is suggested.
