Abstract
Background and Objectives: Distraction osteogenesis involves creation of unlimited quantities of living bone by gradual movement of two of more bony segments following their surgical separation. This technique was first developed for limb lengthening but recently was widely applied in craniomaxillofacial bone with satisfactory outcome. Several designs of the extra and intraoral distraction devices have been invented to serve for different area of the complex craniofacial bone. Intraoral designed devices seem to posses more advantages than extraoral devices, including minimal scarring, less cumbersome with more patient friendly acceptation.
