Role of Casteism in Indian Politics

Abstract

After independence, the modern form of Indian politics developed. Therefore, the possibility was expressed that casteism would be eliminated from India once a democratic system is established in the country, but this did not happen, rather casteism has taken a radical form by entering not only in society but also in politics. Casteism in India has not only affected the economic, social, cultural and religious tendencies here, but has also completely affected the politics. Caste has played an important role in Indian politics. Not only the central but also the state level politics is affected by casteism, which is very dangerous for the democratic system, because due to this the path of national unity and development is being blocked.

 स्वाधीनता प्राप्ति के पश्चात् भारतीय राजनीति का आधुनिक स्वरूप विकसित हुआ। अतः यह संभावना व्यक्त की जाने लगी कि देश में लोकतांत्रिक व्यवस्था स्थापित होने पर भारत से जातिवाद समाप्त हो जायेगा लेकिन ऐसा नहीं हुआ बल्कि जातिवाद ने न केवल समाज में बल्कि राजनीति में भी प्रवेश करके उग्र रूप धारण कर लिया है। भारत में जातिवाद ने न केवल यहाँ की आर्थिक, सामाजिक, सांस्कृतिक, धार्मिक प्रवृतियों को ही प्रभावित किया है, बल्कि राजनीति को भी पूर्ण रूप से प्रभावित किया है। भारत की राजनीति में जाति ने महत्वपूर्ण भूमिका निभाई है। केन्द्र ही नहीं राज्यस्तरीय राजनीति भी जातिवाद से प्रभावित है, जो लोकतांत्रिक व्यवस्था के लिए बहुत ही खतरनाक है, क्योंकि इसके कारण राष्ट्रीय एकता एवं विकास मार्ग अवरुद्ध हो रहा है।
