Abstract

Cardiovascular events are very common in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD). Echocardiography and vascular ultrasound provide important information on ventricular remodeling, systolic and diastolic function and presence of valvular and arterial disease. Thus, in CKD patients cardiovascular echography is a very useful tool for initial evaluation, prognosis and follow-up. The present review analyzes the role of cardiovascular ultrasound in CKD patients, assessing in particular the evaluation of left ventricular hypertrophy, systolic and diastolic dysfunction, left atrial remodeling, coronary heart disease, cardiac resynchronization therapy, valvular calcifications, pericardial disease, vascular calcifications and arterial stiffness. Le patologie cardiovascolari sono molto comuni nei pazienti con insufficienza renale cronica. L’ecografia cardiovascolare fornisce importanti informazioni sul rimodellamento ventricolare sinistro, sulla disfunzione sistolica e diastolica, sulla presenza di valvulopatie e patologia vascolare. Pertanto, nei pazienti con insufficienza renale cronica l’ecografia è uno strumento molto utile per la valutazione iniziale, la prognosi e il follow-up. Questa review analizza il ruolo dell’ecografia cardiovascolare nei pazienti con insufficienza renale cronica, valutando in particolare l’ipertrofia ventricolare sinistra, la funzione sistolica e diastolica, il rimodellamento atriale sinistro, la presenza di un’eventuale coronaropatia, la terapia di risincronizzazione, le calcificazioni valvolari, le malattie del pericardio, le calcificazioni vascolari e la rigidità arteriosa.
