Abstract

Role of Cannabidiol and Tetrahydrocannabivarin on Paclitaxel-Induced Neuropathic Pain in Rodents

Highlights

  • Peripheral neuropathies are the most frequent type of neurodegeneration affecting millions of people worldwide

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the neuroprotective effects of phytocannabinoids, synthetic cannabidiol (CBD) and tetrahydrocannabivarin (THCV) and their combination on taxol induced peripheral neuropathy (PIPN) in mice

  • We evaluated the role of CBD, THCV, and their combination on PTX-induced mechanical hyperalgesia

Summary

Introduction

Peripheral neuropathies are the most frequent type of neurodegeneration affecting millions of people worldwide. With incidence rates in patients ranging from 11 to 90%, PTX-induced neuropathy (PIPN) is one of the most common clinical issues [3]. It can cause sensory dominant neuropathy, which mostly affects small diameter sensory fibers and manifests clinically as paraesthesias, dysesthesias, numbness, impaired proprioception and loss of dexterity in toes and fingers. These symptoms are dose-dependent and they usually go away after the medication is stopped.
