Abstract

Background and Aim: The mechanism by which sperm cell induces oocyte activation depends on free intracellular calcium (Ca2+) of the oocyte. After fertilization, Ca2+ is higher. A correlation between the cytosolic Ca2+ and mitotic divisions were noticed. A low concentration of calcium may arrest embryo development. Calcium ionophores are chemical agents that are used in IVF for providing calcium and activate the oocyte artificially. This study's aim is to know if calcium ionophores helps to improve ICSI fertilization rate and embryo quality in patients with previous failed cycles.
