Role of both agricultural faculties of Al-Azhar University in Cairo and Assuit in developing citizenship of their students

Abstract

The objectives of this research wererecognizing perception degree of students in both faculties of agriculture in Cairo and Assuit concerning citizenship concept. Determining student's opinion about performance degree of university climate, university professors, curriculum, and students' activities in developing their citizenship. This research was done on 156 students from Faculty of Agriculture in Cairo and 80 students from Faculty of Agriculture in Assiut. Students were chosen randomly. Data were collected using a prepared personal questionnaire during November 2018. Data were analyzed using suitable statistics methods.Findings of this research were the majority of students in both faculties of Agriculture in Cairo and Assuit, their perception level of citizenship were high. The majority of students in Both Faculties, their opinion level concerning University professor's performance in developing citizenship were high.More than half of students in both Faculties, their opinion level concerning University climate and students' activities performance in developing citizenship was average.More than three fifth of students in both faculties, their opinion level concerning curriculum performance in developing citizenship was average.There was forward significant correlation relationship between political participation, belongingness to local society, exposure to mass media, and feeling with social appreciation and students' perception of both faculties to citizenship concept.Belongingness to local society and societal contribution contributed in interpretation of total difference of students in both faculties in Cairo and Assuit concerning their perception of citizenship concept with 9,9 % and 6,6 % in order.In conclusion, the participations of the academic staff members, teaching the citizenship as a compensatory subject may increase the citizenship of the undergraduate students.
