Abstract

Abstract The recent shift of human focus towards urban living has created opportunities for a few species of insects such as cockroaches, flies, mosquitoes, bed bugs, ticks, fleas, ants and termites to thrive. Consequent to this a need for insecticides has emerged, increasing chances of mass human exposure to insecticides. To counter this risk, usage of insecticide baits has recently become popular worldwide. Baits are target-specific and effective in killing insect pests directly through ingestion, but also through an indirect process termed 'transfer effect or secondary effect'. However, the most significant aspect of insect bait is the reduction of insecticide use within human vicinity, thus cutting down the chances of exposure to the unsuspecting population.
