Abstract

Abstract Spectroscopic properties in Tb 3+ -doped SiO 2 -B 2 O 3 -Na 2 O-BaO (SBBN) glass have been investigated. It is noted that the Tb 3+ single-doped SBBN glass exhibits intense green (545 nm) emission, obvious blue (493 nm) and yellow (588 nm) emission under the excitation of 365 nm, whose corresponding luminescent mechanism is also discussed. The concentration dependence of the emission intensity shows that the optimum Tb4O7 doping content is 1.0%mol. Effects of B2O3 substitution by SiO2 on spectroscopic properties have also been investigated in detail. The result shows that the substitution of SiO 2 for B 2 O 3 can effectively improve the luminescence properties of Tb 3+ , which makes SBBN glass more attractive for using in optical device.
