Abstract

The effect of electrolyte type on the course of hydrogen penetration through membranes made from intermetallic FeAl phase was investigated. It was found that the type of electrolyte plays an essential role in the process of saturation with hydrogen. Some electrolytes have, apart from generating hydrogen, capabilities of destroying the surface absorption layer of alumina; 30% NaCl in water is one such electrolyte.
