Abstract
Due to industrial and population growth water scarcity has become a global problem. The textile industry is the second largest industry in the world, discarding most of the dye-containing wastewater without treatment. Dyes are carcinogenic organic compounds when mixed with fresh water provide harm to both aquatic and human lives. It is challenging to remove toxic dyes from textile wastewater to keep a clean and green environment. Therefore, the researcher tries to find the latest trends and advances in AOPs. Several treatment methods have been developed to overcome this issue, however, most of them are expensive and provide inefficient removal. The biological process has been used for water treatment. However, it comes with a large amount of sludge production which requires additional costs for handling and disposal. AOPs due to enhanced removal efficiency are widely used for wastewater remediation and sustainability. This review summarizes the recent advances in applying various types of AOPs in treating textile wastewater and discusses the mechanism in detail. This review highlights the gaps and innovative work using different catalysts for treating textile wastewater. Also identifies future challenges and possible solutions for the practical implementation of using AOPs in textile wastewater treatment.
