Abstract

Role modeling therapeutic communication and professionalism is an active teaching strategy for prelicensure nursing students. This role modeling strategy supplements theoretical content taught in the classroom and assists students in formulating concrete examples rather than abstract ideas. A mixed method, nonexperimental descriptive study was conducted to identify various therapeutic and nontherapeutic communication patterns as well as professional and unprofessional behaviors exhibited in a simulated patient scenario.
