Abstract

This study involved presenting Rokeach's Terminal Values Survey to a group of swingers and a group of students. The former was asked to rate 18 values in order of importance while the latter was asked to indicate their top 5 along with what they thought the top 5 would be for swingers. It was predicted that swingers would emphasize pleasure, an exciting life and freedom while downplaying salvation. It was also hypothesized that the students would correctly perceive this. Finally, it was predicted that the students would see large discrepancies between themselves and swingers on these values. Results indicated that the swingers placed salvation last but the other three were laced in the middle of the hierarchy. Strong support was found for the other two hypotheses.
