Abstract

A child perceives parents as an authority in the process of their upbringing. It is from them that the child learns respect, love and kindness towards others. The child is trusting, open and absorbs knowledge. Their whole life and the world are their parents, grandparents, siblings. The first years of a child's life are very important. Over this time the child feels more than they understand. They learn by examples they see in their family home - learning how to pray, participate in the liturgy, and by imitating people with whom they spend every day in specific situations. The question of how to transfer values so that this process is a form of learning about values, determining action for specific values, which means at the same time developing and perfecting the sphere responsible for the way of understanding values, has become a contribution to the empirical research presented in this article. The surveys prepared and conducted among parents of preschool children covered the issue of which Christian values have the highest rank in the upbringing of a child and what is the role of the family environment in the upbringing and transmission of Christian values to the child. Keywords: upbringing for values, Christian values, preschool children, teaching, upbringing, spiritual life, Christian upbringing, character formation
