Abstract

The topic of social competences is often taken up in scientific research, but in pedagogical practice it appears to be a partially neglected area. Conclusions of scientific research are difficult to transfer into educational reality. The study analyzes the level of social competences of students of the University of Technology and Humanities in Radom. The measurement of the level of competence using the Social Competence Questionnaire (SCQ) by Matczak was used. The research has shown that both students starting and finishing their studies are characterized by an average level of social competences. The received data are disturbing, because in the case of persons who are preparing for professions in which the essence is contact with other people, the expectations of their social competences level after graduation are higher than the average level observed in the conducted analysis. The study discusses a “Project of shaping social competences for students of pedagogical faculties” addressed to students of pedagogical faculties. It is based on a cognitive concept. The description of the graduate’s profile uses the studies of Kwaśnica and Argyle, and also the provisions contained in the “Standard of education preparing for the teaching profession”.
