Abstract
The aggregation behaviour of rod-coil block copolymers in a selective solvent of low molecular weight is considered within the scaling approach. Thermodynamically stable micelles are characterized by extended, starlike coronas. The lamellae are expected to exhibit a tilting, smectic A-smectic A-smectic C, first-order phase transition driven by the competition between surface and deformation free energies. The Petschek-Wiefling design for ferroelectric smectic phases is analyzed in the case of swollen lamellar phases formed by ABC coil-rod-coil copolymers
