Abstract

Two rock samples from the San Marcos Gabbro and the Lakeview Mountain Tonalite of the Southern California Batholith were prepared as U.S. Geological Survey reference samples. These samples were chosen to supply reference data for rocks having intermediate silica contents in the range of 45‐60 percent. Unpublished data by members of the U.S. Geological Survey and some published data are summarized, and provisional estimates of the major and minor oxide and traceelement contents are given.
