Abstract

An innovative approach for carbonate seismic reservoir characterization was researched, tested and applied. This approach is based on the integration of core analysis (i.e. laboratory acoustic measurements and pore type petrographic description) into a rock physics model which takes into account the pore type to explain the typical variability of velocities that carbonate reservoirs exhibit for a given porosity. The rock physics model used is based on the Extended Biot Theory (EBT) and allows the calculation of a property (frame flexibility factor or Gamma-K) which in principle can be linked to the rock pore structure
