Abstract

This study on rock mechanics in salt mining first considers general geology, folding and faulting structures composition of salt and form of salt bodies with the simplications which could be used for engineering solutions in rock salt mechanics and mining. It then deals with the exploration and operning of salt deposits with the aspect of design of safe and stable mine structures, and risk of water inflow into the mine. The following chapters analyze the deformation and failure of the salt due to elasto-plastic, creep and outbursts loading conditions. It also discusses strata mechanics and control for different mining systems of flat, inclued and massive salt bodies, as well as solution mining and excavation for storage. The last chapter presents the stability analyses to the mine structures with regard to salt mining subsidence.
