Abstract

Anisotropy of isothermal remanent magnetization (AIRM) is a new way for magnetic fabric study. The same as parameters of anisotropy of anhysteretic remanent magnetization, the parameters of AIRM is directly associated with the shape and alignment of magnetic carriers in rocks, which reflects deformation and dislocation of the carriers under rock's compaction. Therefore this technique could be effectively used to correct inclination shallowing. The paper introduces the AIRM and its application in inclination shallowing correction. As an example, we obtain the corrected inclination of Eocene red sandstone of Suweiye formation in Tarim basin, which is very identical with the inclination of Eurasia plate in the Tertiary.
