Abstract
Robustness of production systems is a popular research topic that comes in many facets. However, apart from a few case studies, not much is known about what robustness actually means in practice. Therefore, this study analyzes how practitioners deal with robustness. The data is based on a fairly representative survey of the German manufacturing industry. Amongst others, it is shown what practitioners understand by robustness, how they assess it, and which measures they consider as suitable to improve it. The results not only allow practitioners to compare their own status with industry’s best practices, but also suggest further researcher areas.
