Abstract

This paper presents a rectenna array with robust efficiency for RF energy harvesting in the internet of things (IoT) applications. Typically, maximum power can be received by a rectenna when the incident wave comes from the peak-gain direction of the antenna. However, once the incident wave deviates from the peak-gain direction, the received power decreases sharply and the efficiency of the rectenna deteriorates a lot. To solve this problem, several antenna elements are used to form an antenna array to achieve peak-gains in six directions. A 3 × 3 hybrid coupler is connected to the antenna array to redistribute the power evenly. Three rectifiers in parallel can be connected to the output ports of the coupler to form the rectifying circuit. Simulation and measurement results prove the performance of the designed rectenna array.
