Abstract

This article presents a new non-iterative approach to deal with the problem of robust tuning of power system stabilizers. The proposed approach is based on the Taguchi robust design technique, which aims at optimizing the power system stabilizer parameters while simultaneously reducing the influence of variations in system operating conditions. The robust tuning methodology of a single-stage power system stabilizer for the single-machine infinite-bus system is presented to demonstrate the Taguchi-based approach. The robust power system stabilizer parameters are determined using analysis of means. The robustness of the designed power system stabilizer is tested using no-way analysis of means and time domain simulations.
