Abstract

The robust synchronization in a network coupled by excitatory synapses with medium synaptic delay is explored. It is found that the robust synchronization is sensitive to the reversal potential of the synapse. Furthermore, it is found that low reversal potential, strong synapse strength, and weak external drive contribute to the robust synchronization of an excitatory network. The important role of excitatory neurons in the robust synchronization is ascribed to the mechanism that the neurons firing earlier in previous cycle of the oscillation receive stronger inhibitory synaptic currents (or weaker excitatory synaptic currents).
