Abstract

This paper considers the synthesis of low-order H controllers for one axis of the satellite SPOT 5, which exhibits lightly damped modes with large uncertainties. Two approaches are compared: the first one involves successively the classical Riccati-based state-space solution to H synthesis and a posteriori model reduction of the controller. The other one solves the LMI formulation of the reduced-order H control problem using the Potential Reduction Method. For both designs, robust stability is checked using v -analysis, i.e. by evaluating the structured singular value without frequency gridding.
