Abstract

both groups is also not significant. Among the 131 surgical patients evaluated, 7 patients had leukocytosis and 4 (57.1%) of these seven had metastatic lymph nodes compared to 25 (20.2%) of 124 patients without leukocytosis; p=0.042. Conclusion: Our findings suggest an increased risk of lymph node metastases in patients with leukocytosis. Based on this finding, we recommend risk adapted imaging with PETCT scans or MRI to evaluate lymph node status in patients with leukocytosis in centers where these imaging studies are used selectively. This observation may be useful in risk stratification, better treatment planning and prognostication.
