Abstract

Various methods of minimally invasive parathyroid surgery have been introduced over the last 2 decades. Recently, robotic approaches for thyroid and parathyroid surgery had gained increased interest in Asia as well as in the Western countries. These novel approaches did overcome the limitations of the prior described endoscopic approaches through several dexterities of the robotic system such as magnified, high-resolution vision, and precise movement of the instruments. Furthermore, robotic approaches facilitated complete remote extracervical approaches to target these organs with safety. Remote access approaches provides higher cosmetic satisfaction compared with the traditional cervical approach, especially in young women with history of healing with keloids or hypertrophic scars, which would have a significant influence on their quality of life. In this article, we discuss different approaches using remote access robot-assisted parathyroid surgery.
