Abstract

ROBERT director with a career full of important achievements during nearly fifty years in the film industry; he also won recognition as one of the outstanding chroniclers of motion picture history. Recently Florey's last book, Hollywood Village, has been published posthumously, and one of his earlier classics, Deux ans dans les studios americains, was reprinted.1 This becomes an occasion calling for a retrospective of his dozen works on motion pictures, all of them labeled exemplary works of scholarship by Anthony Slide.2 And beyond Florey's books and countless articles, his passion for film lore was indicated by his making some of the earliest avant-garde and feature movies to utilize the background and mythology of Hollywood.
