Abstract
When a man is needed to do a particular job effectively, it is wise to select someone who is already overloaded with work. Organized medicine, like all segments of American Society, has a habit of finding many tasks for those members who possess unusual wisdom, judgment, and leadership ability. The Radiological Society of North America has selected such a man for its President, Doctor Robert Dulaney Moreton of Fort Worth, Texas. Doctor Moreton, the son of the late Robert D. Moreton and Lena Durfey Moreton, was born Sept. 24, 1913, at Brookhaven, Miss. He attended Tulane University and Millsaps College, receiving the Bachelor of Science degree from the latter in 1934. He received his undergraduate medical education at the University of Mississippi School of Medicine and the University of Tennessee College of Medicine, and was awarded the degree of Doctor of Medicine by the University of Tennessee in 1938. Following a year as intern at the Lloyd Nolan Memorial Hospital in Fairfield, Ala., and a year as Instructor of Physiology at the University of Mississippi School of Medicine, Doctor Moreton became a Fellow in Radiology at the Mayo Foundation. Doctor Moreton moved to Temple, Texas, in November 1942 and from 1942 to 1950 was staff radiologist at the Scott and White Clinic and Hospital. While in Temple, he was a member of the Bell County Medical Society and served on various committees of that society. In 1950 he moved to Fort Worth to become a senior partner in the Bond Radiological Group. On Sept. 21, 1945, Doctor Moreton married Alma Williamson of Eastland, Texas. Alma has been an inspiring and understanding helpmate throughout his distinguished career. Since his Bell County Medical Society days, Doctor Moreton has been a leader in local and state medical societies. In the Tarrant County Medical Society, he served on various committees, was President in 1959, and Chairman of the Board of Trustees in 1963. He was a Founder and has been a member of the Board of Trustees of the Fort Worth Academy of Medicine. For seven years he was Secretary for the Northwest Texas Medical Society and was President of that Society in 1963. The Texas Medical Association has used his talents as Chairman of the Section on Radiology, and as Alternate Delegate to the American Medical Association. For five years he was Chairman of the Council of Medical Jurisprudence of the Texas Medical Association. He has served as President of the Texas Radiological Society and as both Secretary and President of the Dallas-Fort Worth Radiological Society. On a national level, Doctor Moreton has been equally active. For eight years he was a member of the Board of Trustees of the American Registry of X-Ray Technicians and served two terms as President of that Board. In the American College of Radiology, he was a member of the Board of Chancellors from 1956 to 1959, and a member of the Executive Committee from 1957 to 1959.
