Abstract
For some years scholars and nonspecialist readers interested in the Brownings have felt the need for a supplement to that truly remarkable and invaluable volume, Robert Browning: A Bibliog raphy, 1830-1950 by L. N. Broughton, C. S. Northup, and Robert Pearsall (1953; hereafter, for the sake of brevity, cited as BNP). In Boyd Litzinger and K. L. Knickerbocker's The Browning Critics (1965) we were given a checklist of Robert Browning scholarship for the period of 1951 through May 1965; and of course by con sulting the standard annual bibliographies and the checklists pub lished regularly in the Browning Newsletter, it was possible (albeit time-consuming) to track down the more important titles. Never theless, what many have longed for is a supplement to BNP that would measure up to the original in depth, accuracy, and compre hensiveness.
