Abstract

In 2019, the national rate of primary cesareans was 25.6%. However, in Florida it was 29.6%, the 2nd highest in the United States. Birth certificate data show only 21% of hospitals in Florida meet the Healthy People 2020 national goal for nulliparous term singleton vertex (NTSV) cesareans of < 23.9%. A culture of casual acceptance of a cesareans has developed, and many women are unaware of the risks and potential complications, including risks to future pregnancies. In NTSV laboring patients, do educating nurses and changing unit culture lower NTSV cesareans rates compared with acceptance of current practice.
