Abstract

Statement of the problem. In order to increase the capacity of roads in winter, it is necessary to ensure its snow tolerance. This problem is especially relevant for road sections in recesses. The transverse profiles of the roadbed design allows to partially solving this problem by changing the geometric parameters of the recess. During designing, it is necessary to take into account the estimated volume of snow removal to the road. Results. The analysis of the results of studies on snow-bearing roads conducted in Russia and abroad is carried out. Calculation schemes for determining the snow deposits volume in recesses are considered and the snow capacity of slopes for recesses of various depths is calculated. Snow-storms parameters for Voronezh region weather stations have been determined. Using these parameters, the snow capacity of the recesses is estimated and the cuvette shelf dimensions for placing blizzard snow are calculated.Conclusions. The calculations results allow concluding that additional research is needed to establish an economically feasible shelf width and to choose an option for additional snow protection.
