Abstract

Effects of the quaternary sea levels' changes of the Caspian Sea, Black Sea and Mediterranean Sea upon the relief's formation of their mountainous margins. This papier gives first a statement of the main stratigraphical records along the coasts in relation with numerous marine or continental terraces whose the different stages are examinated with references to the quaternary coastal stratigraphy of the Mediterranean Sea. It's necessary to explain the lack of synchronism of the sea levels between the three basins ans the geomorpho- logical consequences, to show also the effects of the neotectonical deformations upon the vertical spreading of the coastal terraces. Climatic, eustatic and tectonical controls are mixed. The holocene terraces containing many archeological traces and the man made sea-level fluctuations of the Caspian Sea are so called up.
