Abstract

Adamantyl- or homoadamantyl-derived N-bridgehead amides are converted in high yields into hydrocarbon derivatives on prolonged reflux in ethanol and 50% sulphuric acid (1:1 by volume). This process probably involves A AL 1 hydrolysis to the tertiary carbonium ion, followed by hydride abstraction from the ethanol solvent.
