Abstract

Crack Characterization using Ultrasonic Rayleigh Waves. Ultrasonic Rayleigh waves (surface waves) provide different approaches for crack evaluation due to their reflection, transmission and mode conversion behaviour. Results are presented for fatigue cracks based on measurement of time-of-flight, amplitude and spectral features. Limitations of application are considered, emphasising the role of crack closure effects.
