Abstract

Construction workers fatality rate is more when compared with workers of any other sectors. To minimize the number of risks and maximize the safety, construction companies seeks different strategies constantly. This study focuses on the issues and uncertainties in various activities of construction projects in the state of Kerala. The most important key factor in safety management system is the increasing accident rate in construction sites. Study on the risk management factors is scarce. The construction firms in Kerala lack a risk management framework and still practice the conventional construction process. The research for this study was conducted in private sector construction firms which provides access to the present conditions of the construction projects. Further, the research identifies the risks involved in handling construction projects, provides risk assessment based on the HIRA technique, and provides response strategies to critical risks. Thus, the study suggests various recommendations that can be utilized to reduce the impact of uncertainties on project performance, which is required because such high impact risks affects and slow down the performance of infrastructure projects.
