Abstract

(Abstracted from J Matern Fetal Neonatal Med 2018;31(24):3232–3237) Neonatal acidemia is associated with short- and long-term morbidity in the child. Cardiotocography, or electronic fetal monitoring, is one of the most widely used techniques for intrapartum fetal monitoring, and the use of adjunctive technologies such as fetal scalp blood sampling (FBS) is the norm in many countries, increasing the specificity of cardiotocography, and is likely to reduce the rate of cesarean deliveries.
