Abstract

Objective To investigate the risk factors and mortality of critically ill patients in emergency care. Methods We retrospectively analyzed the data of critically ill patients admitted and treated at the emergency department of our hospital from January 2016 to December 2017.The correlation of mortality with general information, primary disease, and past medical history was analyzed. Results Of 360 patients receiving emergency care, 271 were male and 89 were female.Thirty-eight patients died during emergency treatment and the death rate was 10.55%.In the age groups, there were 8 deaths in 283 patients under 65 years old, accounting for 2.83%; 30 deaths in 77 patients over the age of 65, accounting for 38.96%.The mortality rate in the above 65 group was higher than that of the below 65 group(χ2=12.36, P<0.05). Major primary diseases were located in the respiratory, circulatory, digestive, and nervous systems. Conclusions There is a notable correlation of mortality in critically ill patients with age, primary disease of a major system, and past medical history.
