Abstract

The authors performed a retrospective analysis of 8904 eyes registered on the French national waiting list that underwent penetrating keratoplasty between 2000 and 2002 to identify risk factors associated with need to perform corneal regraft (CR). The frequency of CR was 14.0% of all cases performed. For all surgical indications for CR, the following factors were found to be independently associated with a statistically significantly increased risk of CR (P < .05): primary diagnosis, vascularization in more than two quadrants, planned recipient diameter over 8.5 mm, immunologic disorders, previous lens surgery, and previous surgery for glaucoma or trauma.
