Abstract

Background: Anastomotic leakage increases morbidity and mortality after colorectal surgery. It can even influence prognosis and tumour recurrence. Anastomotic leakage (AL) after total colectomy is influenced by several factors, many of which can be influenced preoperatively by patient optimisation. The aim of this study was to assess the established and potential predictors of AL following total or subtotal colectomy.
